How about we add --enable-html-doc, --enable-pdf-doc and --enable-ps-doc
to configure.in?  The default action would be to enable all three, but the 
user could either use "--disable-*-doc" or "--enable-*-doc=no".  It's 
actually rather easy to do with autoconf.
