Agreed 100%. I'm trying to do that here. I've built what I
think is the equivalent of the 20040720 release of winavr
on linux for binutils and gcc but I can't get avr-libc-1.0.4
to build happily on FC3. Maybe I'll post the details to the
avr-libc list as this is probably off topic here but if
anyone has had success with this or has some hints, please
drop me a note.

PS. Yes, I do know there are newer flashier versions of winavr
and yes the latest version of avr-libc does build on FC3 but
I need to get 20040720 going to be compatible with zillions of
lines of tested, deployed code we have ...
