That is the piece of info that I needed.
Doing the following gave we a very wide preview output:
\usepackage{vmargin}
\setpapersize[landscape]{USletter}
\setmarginsrb%
{.5in}% %leftmargin
{0.50in}% %topmargin
{.5in}% %rightmargin
{0.5in}% %bottommargin
{0.1in}% %headheight
{0.1in}% %headsep
{12pt}% %footheight
{0.1in}% %footskip

I haven't tried the developer version of GNU Emacs yet, but I understand
the need for scrolling of images.
