Witam,

W ostatnim czasie uruchomiono "multiviews" na serwerze gnu.org. To
oznacza, że jeśli się ma odpowiednio skonfigurowaną przeglądarkę (w
ustawieniach językowych należy wybrać kolejność preferowanych języków)
to powinno się wyświetlać odpowiednie tłumaczenie.

W obecnej implementacji, nadal działają te nasze "spolszczone"
odnośniki. Przy najbliższej aktualizacji danego artykułu wyszukamy czy
jest odnośnik do .pl.html i zmienimy na .html - multiviews
automatycznie poda polską (lub odpowiednią inną) stronę. Poniżej jest
bardziej szczegółowe objaśnienie dlaczego nie powinniśmy tłumaczyć
odnośników.

Some time ago our sysadmins made Multiviews on www.gnu.org work more
reasonably. it means that URLs like http://gnu.org/p/foo.html work as
the generic URL for the article; Apache will serve the translation in
the most preferred visitor's language (if the visitor has setup per
browser preferences correctly).

The most visible implication for the translators is that they shouldn't
"translate" the links to other articles (e.g. if there is an Latvian
translation of foo.html, the translator shouldn't replace link to
foo.html with foo.lv.html in Latvian translations of other articles).

This is recommended because Latvian may be in fact not the most
preferred language of the visitor (the preferences may look like
"Lithuanian > Latvian > Polish > German"); so, if there is a Latvian
translation of bar.html, but the Lithuanian translation is absent,
www.gnu.org will serve bar.lv.html. now, if bar.lv.html links to
foo.lv.html rather than to foo.html, then the visitor will get the
Latvian translation, which is not the most preferred one.

Another effect of those changes in Apache configuration is that single
line in .symlinks now defines links to all possible translations;
for example, /p/why-not-lgpl.sr.html is now redirected to the Serbian
translation of /l/why-not-lgpl.html.
