look inside .swarmArchiver, you will see it is saved window positions
and such. It is automatically recreated. No need to redelete, unless
you encounter corruption again. Corruption usually happens due to a
change of swarm versions or possibly because of a model crash. I have
not seen it for a couple of years.
So I re-deleted
it, and it ran well--question: is this a permanent solution? or this can
only be fixed by doing something else such as updating the swarm?
By the way, is .swarmArchiver a hidden file? I cannot see it by using ls
or in the gnome Start here window.

ls -la
ls does not show hidden files. neither does defalt gnome file manager.
