Thanks, Paul. reinstalling the rpms did temporarily fixed the problem, but later it came back again. Deleting the .swarmArchiver as suggested in your FAQ web fixed the problem. An interesting finding: I removed it by using rm .swarmArchiver, and the model ran OK. Then I went to another model, and found the .swarmArchiver file was back again.

look inside .swarmArchiver, you will see it is saved window positions and such. It is automatically recreated. No need to redelete, unless you encounter corruption again. Corruption usually happens due to a change of swarm versions or possibly because of a model crash. I have not seen it for a couple of years.

So I re-deleted it, and it ran well--question: is this a permanent solution? or this can only be fixed by doing something else such as updating the swarm?

By the way, is .swarmArchiver a hidden file? I cannot see it by using ls or in the gnome Start here window.

do

ls -la

ls does not show hidden files. neither does defalt gnome file manager.
