Hey, if you've gotta be paranoid, why not do it in a big way, eh?  :-)

If you did the configure with with 2.7.2.3 and then compiled with 2.8
or egcs, that would explain the errors you posted.  (The former
doesn't have objc_malloc and the others do.)

Yeah, I use 8.1 (and all the latest everything) in my
bleeding-edge-paranoid-total-source-control-area and canonical binary
distributions (e.g. 8.0) in my normal build area .. just because if
I'm going to be riding on the bit flux, I'd just as soon be on the
same waves as the developers'.
