Operating System Preference for Swarm

I have just obtained 2 identical machines (500Mhz Pentium III, 384Mb, 2x10Gb)

I will load Linux on one and MS-Win on the other and run swarm on both.

2 questions:
     1) What version of RedHat would you folks recommend, (or would you
recommend some other version of Linux)?

     2) With respect to MS-Win what would you run: 95, 98 or NT?

Can you please explain you reasoning for each preference please.
