I've not done this on Solaris, but I can help with some aspects.
I wish the readme were better on this question, as newcomers
are invariably befuddled.


If you run the binary version, you need not get tcl/tk/ etc.
It is all compiled into it and that's the beauty of the binary
instally.

The archive method requires you to get all those packages, but
you only have to do it if the binary doesn't work or you want
to be able to patch the swarm source code.  

You might look at the "active FAQ" we are building for Swarm1.1 and
forward, see if the linux instructions help you understand more clearly.

I'm tinkering with the faq_manager software that runs that page if you
get errors, please tell me.  I think it is OK.
