I'm really confused here; I think you are looking for a different word.
"intentional" is the opposite of an accident.

Regardless of what is expected, I"m not sure that is enough to keep this
change out of the tree, since I also updated the documentation along
with making the change.  If a user wants to build from git, they should
read the INSTALL document to find out what they need to do.

I agree, this only affects building from git, so I think we can go ahead
with it.
