If I have a Github branch (which I guess is similar to a separate tree
on Savannah) then who actually merges the translations between the
branches? Me?

I agree. Problem is that git.gnome.org has some strict commit hooks
which do not like merge commits. So my initial reason for avoiding two
active public trees was that if I forgot to put '--rebase' when
pulling there is always the risk of git.gnome.org freaking out when
trying to push to it from my local master. Or maybe I need to learn a
bit more about Git.
