You may find my implementation of a trash command for Ranger useful [1].
It adheres a bit more closely to the freedesktop trash specification
than the shell bindings discussed here by choosing a trash directory
based on the mount point and creating metadata for trashed files, so
other programs that support trash should be able to handle files
trashed through Ranger without incident.
Been a while since I used it, but I know of no reason it shouldn't
work as expected.
