Hi,
I have recently noticed that some PNG image creators make totally different
sizes for some images, and given that its a non-lossy format they all render
into exactly the same image. Since Pingus has hundreds of images, if there
was a small saving on some images, and if it only had to be done once, it
might be worthwhile. Here are some numbers for some files, original and what
it recompresses too (with identical visual image)
Compressed using a mixture of Paint, GViewer, PSP 8 and Microsoft Photo
Editor
Layer1.png 180,359 -> 160,742
sortie_anim.png 20,804 -> 17,205
chalk_pingu4.png 792 -> 707
button.png 180 -> 144
Of course, some files don't compress at all, but it seems that a lot have
about 10% saving possible. Is this worth it? Maybe just for bigger images?
Neil
