 Hi all,

"Hello World" :)

I thought you like to know that the new email (and more) application or phpgw
has reached a significant milestone.  This is the first message it has sent
which has left my lan.

The app uses REST/AJAX for the GUI.  It also uses a lot of client side XSLT.
For these reasons o
nly IE5.5+ and ff0.8+ are definitely going to work.  From what I have read
Safari 1.3 *may* work.  Opera and khtml will not work.  To be safe use firefox!
 The app also uses a lot of javascript to give it a desktop feel.  The user
interface is very similar to my favourite email client - evolution.

On to the more specific features:

* Multiple account support - working

* PHP Sockets for IMAP and POP3 - working

* Smart Caching - mostly working

* VFS integration for attachments - coming

* Spellchecking using a desktop style popup - working

* Google Suggest style autocomplete for addresses - working

* Client side sorting of messages - whoops I broke that

* "POP3 folders" support - designed, but not implemented (maybe stage 2)

* WYSIWYG composer - working

* RSS reader - stage 2

* IM messenging client - stage 2

* NNTP reader - one day

I plan to post some screenshots on phpGroupWare.org in the coming d
ays.  The app will not be available in CVS until after the alpha bugs are
worked out of the app.  For those of you who are interested in testing the new
email app, please let me know.

The server side requirements probably rule out shared hosting, here is a quick
check list

* access to the httpd.conf

* PECL mailparse (optional but recommended)

* msg_size*4 M RAM available to PHP

This is a completely new email app which has been sponsored by a company
looking to roll it out to their ~2500 staff.  The aim is to create something
like evo4web+, I think we are close to realising this.

Cheers

Dave
