I am using the latest homebrew formula
<https://github.com/mcg1969/homebrew-science/blob/master/octave.rb> to
compile a checkout of octave. Java (Version 8) works out of the box:
>>v = javaObject ("java.util.Vector")
v =
<Java object: java.util.Vector>
>> v.add(12);
>> v.get(0)
ans = 12
