I'm happy to announce that the Centre des Recherches Mathématiques has
confirmed support for hosting OctConf 2012 during July 16-20. Please
start making travel plans as soon as possible. I'm still working on
getting more funding for it. I cannot promise anything to anyone, but
it would be helpful if you could start sending me estimated travel
expenses, including lodging. I will see about group rates for the
lodging that the CRM offers.
We should also start thinking about topics of discussion annd problems
to tackle, plus preparing presentation materials for new users and a
general audience. The GUI and making OpenGL default (perhaps even
deprecating fltk in favour of Qt) seem like some example of big goals
we could handle working face-to-face.
I will be adding an announcement to the Octave webpage about this.
Fotios, could you start making a poster about it? If possible in a
format where it would be easy to add text to it? I'm still not exactly
sure what it should say, but I really liked your design from many
months ago.
