Follow-up Comment #6, bug #54391 (project octave): What I don't understand is why this affects Octave, but not bash. The compiled in defaults of readline and bash bind Meta+P to the function "non-incremental-reverse-search-history", and Alt+P on my keyboard triggers this. But I am still able to enter Cyrillic multibyte characters at the bash prompt. Same with the rlwrap command.
