Follow-up Comment #56, bug #47372 (project octave):

This is a peculiarity of the way Ubuntu configure's its gcc slightly
differently from Debian.

I am able to reproduce your segfault if I edit the libtool script by hand
after running configure and force "-Wl,--as-needed" to be present on the link
command line very early on, right after where "-nostdlib" appears in my
libtool script. Building all of Octave with this option enabled shows the same
segfault you've been seeing all along and we on Debian haven't.

I doubt this has any effect on bug #41699, because it looks like the mxe gcc
is built with OpenMP disabled, and so is GraphicsMagick.
