Follow-up Comment #5, bug #39828 (project octave):

Awesome.  Thanks for the missing symbols.  I did a visual re-check and now the
only difference I see is for '\circ'.  In Octave this produces a circle, in
Matlab's documentation it produces what looks like a degree symbol (small
circle slightly above centerline of glyph).

Michael Godfrey, could you verify what glyph Matlab actually produces for
"text (0.5, 0.5, '\circ')"?  I don't always trust their documentation.
