Follow-up Comment #8, bug #39828 (project octave):

I'm pretty sure Matlab intended this to be a degree symbol.  See this posting
on how to get a degree symbol
(http://www.mathworks.com/support/solutions/en/data/1-2CH660/index.html).

This is important for Octave user's because they can't get a degree symbol the
other way by using the popularly mapped ASCII code 176.  See this bug report
(https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=33155).

Example Code:


text (0.5, 0.5, char (176))
