It could be that the HTTPS URLs you tried were inaccessible. Which ones have
you tried? Does it work with HTTP URLs? If you hadn't SSL support on Lynx it
would have said: "Alert! This client does not contain support for HTTPS
URLs."

I've been compiling and using Lynx with SSL (SSLeay and OpenSSL) for a couple
of years on Solaris2 and FreeBSD without problems.
