My two cents if they help. Lout is indeed in the GNU distribution.
This is how I came to learn about lout. It comes standard with at
least one distribution of Linux (http://www.redhat.com). I suspect
that other distributions also include it.
If you should need any "quotable comments" on lout for your
purposes let us know. I'm keen on lout and hope that you and
others continue with its development.
