Chords in Lead Sheets?

I'm having difficulty finding any documentation that explains how to 
create chord nomenclature.

I've only figured out the basics: <root>:7, <root>:maj, etc., but I'm 
struggling with "sus," "half diminished" and others.  Isn't there a list 
of naming conventions somewhere?
