You can open *.ly-Files with every editor (maybe notepad on Win???, but there
are surely better progs available).

That's good. :-)
Open a cygwin console by clicking on the icon. Lilypond is not as most (all)
progs you might know on Win. There is no graphical interface. You just write
a textfile in your favorite editor, surely in a special way; see the
indroduction on the website.
Then you can run
lilypond FILE.ly OR ly2dvi FILE.ly (depends on what version you use; versions
since 2.0.0 use the first one, prior the last)
and you get some files of the music you just wrote. Most likely you want to
have the ps/pdf-Files which you can wach in Acrobat Reader or Ghostview.

If installed correctly, it should be in "/usr/bin/lilypond" in the
cygwin-console. But just typing lilypond should work.
