Yeah, the heaviness is the main problem.  I think Frescobaldi is
pretty lightweight, though it carries a massive dependency (KDE).
Also, the JRE (or OpenJDK) for Jedit is pretty heavy.

We could try porting some of the code to pygtk, though I haven't
looked into it to see how difficult it would be.
