Pat,

It would be awesome to have Koha come out as an rpm for redhat
installations.

We've had packages for... ask the list who did them, I can't recall who made
them. Might've been Steve?
We would very much like people to produce pakages (.rpm, .deb., .pkg,
.lpp, or whatever) which we could put up in a contrib area.

This is something I think we can learn to automate... a fair amount of
effort/research will be necessary, but this is a good area to "recruit"
around, as the problems are widely applicable. I assume you've seen the
commentary about the growing aggravations of things like RPM lately?

I usually agree with most proposition...
Today, i will disagree...
I think we should not take too much energy on rpm, deb... installer for instance for the following reasons :
* RPM is a great tool for client installation. koha just has to be installed on a server for a given library.
* our installer.pl is nice, and is OS/distrib independant. It just needs Perl...
* we NEED time to develop MARC, templates. And we need help for testing install i think (_a test manager_ ?) ... I think we could spend time on rpm when we will have less stuff on the road.

I agree that if someone wants to do a rpm..., he could, but he should know we have a lot of very important things to do, and we should not SEARCH for someone to do. If you want to search for help, please search for marc / templating / release testing help. I think that's where we need more to investigate.

Note : about a windows version, the problem is different. I will be happy to see one, even if there is no chance i ever use it ;-))
