The current Octaviz package in Debian (both unstable and testing) is a
CVS snapshot taken around the middle of September, which should have
most of what's in the new release (actually, I'm not aware of any
changes)
The deprecated VTK functions are exactly that: deprecated functions or
headers in VTK. There's no way Octaviz can work around them. VTK's
upstream is aware of this for some time, but it doesn't seem to be a
high priority issue (they would accept patches for it, though).
