Perhaps if the latest version is slower you can do some profiling of your code and maybe narrower the part of the code that is taking significantly longer on newer versions of octave, to a short example.
Just a quick question: is there some way to profile the interpreter? Like, can one just add -p to the CFLAGS and it'll work? Or is there some magic flag you can add to a .m file that'll do something useful?
