Octave installation after installation of Xcode Tools seemed to
succeed. But no luck running octave after adding .octaverc with
LOADPATH and EXEC-PATH as specified. What is missing?
Henry
Installation complete.
To use, add the following to .octaverc:
LOADPATH = [
'/usr/local/libexec/octave/2.1.71/site/oct/powerpc-apple-darwin8.1.0/
octave-forge:/usr/local/share/octave/2.1.71/site/m/octave-forge//:',
LOADPATH ];
EXEC_PATH = [
'/usr/local/libexec/octave/2.1.71/site/exec/powerpc-apple-
darwin8.1.0:', EXEC_PATH ];
To uninstall, remove the following:
MPATH = /usr/local/share/octave/2.1.71/site/m/octave-forge
OPATH =
/usr/local/libexec/octave/2.1.71/site/oct/powerpc-apple-darwin8.1.0/
octave-forge
XPATH =
/usr/local/libexec/octave/2.1.71/site/exec/powerpc-apple-darwin8.1.0
ALTMPATH =
/usr/local/share/octave/2.1.71/site/octave-forge-alternatives/m
ALTOPATH =
/usr/local/libexec/octave/2.1.71/site/octave-forge-alternatives/oct/
powerpc-apple-darwin8.1.0
Some FIXES may be out of date. Check the scripts in:
/usr/local/share/octave/2.1.71/site/m/octave-forge/FIXES
/usr/local/libexec/octave/2.1.71/site/oct/powerpc-apple-darwin8.1.0/
octave-forge
against those in your version of Octave.

Do you have the Developer's Tools installed? I don't think it's part

Subject: Installing octave & octave-forge on Mac OS X 10.4.x - A No-
Fuss
Guide REVISED
Hi, everyone.
Based on very helpful comments from several list members, I have
revised the guide a bit (eliminated a few packages, and added a few
others).
I also included a link to http://hpc.sourceforge.net/ recommended by
Paul Kienzle. This site has an OS X 10.4.x installer (binary) for
octave, which would presumably eliminate downloading some of the
packages. However, I didn't try this method because the latest
versions of octave and octave-forge are up and running on my OS X
10.4.1 system, and I don't want to touch them! :-)
Would any of you who have installed octave and octave-forge on Mac OS
X 10.4.x please look over this revised guide and post any comments
you have -- errors, additions, suggestions, and perhaps easier
methods of doing this. For example, it would be ideal if there were
just a few OS X installers that we could download rather than having
to download all the separate packages. The above site has an
installer for octave, but we still need all the pieces for octave-
forge, etc. Let me know if there is a way to simplify all this.
Here is the original post about this guide, with the link (for the
latest version). Thanks to everyone!

Here is an absolute beginner's guide to installing octave and octave-
forge on Mac OS X 10.4.x.

Thanks to all the members of this list who were very helpful and
patient in answering my questions. Because of your help, I was able
to get the latest versions of both octave and octave-forge up and
running flawlessly.
If you have any corrections, additions, or suggestions how this
beginner's guide can be improved, please let me know.
Thanks again for your help and for this great resource.
