Here are the results of running Francesco Potorti's benchmark, version
1.5. I was not able to download version 1.6, but I beleive that it only
contains minor bug fixes.
Octave benchmark version bm 1.5
Speed of octave 1.1.1 on i586-unknown-linux relative to Sun Sparc 10/40
Matrix inversion (LAPACK) 4.55 +/- 1.7% (56 runs)
Schur decomposition (LAPACK) 7.10 +/- 3.1% (35 runs)
Differential equation (LSODE) 6.92 +/- 0.9% (35 runs)
Fourier transforms (FFTPACK) 3.73 +/- 0.2% (42 runs)
for loop 5.78 +/- 0.5% (49 runs)
-- Performance index (bm 1.5): 5.5
Machine details -
CPU: Intel Pentium Pro 200 Mhz
Memory: 64 Mb
OS: Debian Linux 1.1, kernel 2.0.0
