[Help-gnu-radius] make check fails on slackware and segmentation fault with -p

I am using version 1.2 on a redhat box very successfully (thank you!)  I am 
trying to build a new radius server with version 1.3 on a new slackware box and 
I am running into a strange issue with make check.   "configure" and "make" 
appear successful, but make check fails:

After trying several things, I noticed that ps-ef | grep radius yielded about 
20 instances of the following:

root     14797     1  0 13:34 ?        00:00:00 lt-radiusd -d 
/root/radius-1.3/tests/raddb -l /root/radius-1.3/tests/raddb/log -a 
/root/radius-1.3/tests/raddb/acct -P /root/radius-1.3/tests/raddb


And if you try to make install, radiusd will run ok with no arguments.  However 

radiusd -y -p 1645 -A -z -x 100

results in 

Segmentation fault

however if I take out the -p argument it seems to work ok.

I tried to configure with --with-included-argp per someone's previous tip, but 
make then terminates with the following output:

Is this just a difference between version 1.2 and 1.3?  Why would make check 
appear to fail so horribly yet the daemon does seem to be running?  (I haven't 
configured users on it yet, tho)
