GNU Bison off the endangered-species list

Professor Aycock, several months ago I read and was impressed by your
August 2001 ACM Crossroads paper "Why Bison is Becoming Extinct"

As luck would have it, Paul Hilfinger recently contributed a GLR
parser to the Bison project, and this is now part of the current Bison
version <ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/bison/bison-1.50.tar.gz>. A lot of
credit for this implementation is due to Akim Demaille of EPITA, who
did the lion's share of the work in getting the new version out the
door.

You know a lot more about parsing than I do, so if you can make
further suggestions for improving Bison we'd very much appreciate
hearing about them. Bison labors under backward-compatibility
constraints that do not afflict SPARK, Accent, etc., but on the other
hand there's no reason why it can't incorporate many of the newer
ideas in parsing technology.

(I'm CC'ing this to address@hidden so that other Bison users know
about your paper.)
