Hi Axel
I think we are talking about different things: It's not about your
Live-CD beeing 32 or 64 bit, it's about the choice you get in
VirtualBox when setting up a new virtual machine. If the 64 bit
option is missing, then this is an indicator that you might have a
conflict with your virus protection.
Best regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,
Good to read that you got it up and running.
The choice for the 32bit environment was made because it gives you
more flexibility, esp. On older computers.
Happy exploring!

Hi Axel
Thanks for your feedback. I did check the VirtualBox forum,
and although I didn't know exactly what I was doing I made a
lucky punch.
To make a long story short: If you are running a 64 bit
machine but only get 32 bit operating systems as a choice when
setting up the virtual machine, then you should read this: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=62339#p291404
In my case there was a conflict between VirtualBox and my
anti-virus software (Avast, but other manufacturers may have
the same issue). I had to turn off the anti-virus software
once during the setup of the virtual machine to be able to
choose "openSuse (64 bit)", and then everything went fine. (I
don't have to disable the anti-virus software anymore when
booting or running the virtual machine.)
I hope this helps others with similar problems as well.
Happy holidays!

Hi Martin,
I'm travelling as well, w/o access to my laptop.
That sounds like a general problem with Virtualbox. Did you
check the VBox Forum for this error?

I made some progress, and maybe
this helps to find a solution:
The fatal error I encountered was a result of not having
activated the PAE mode in the virtual machine's
settings. But doing so resulted in a Kernel panic when
booting again, so that didn't take me much further.
I then tried to run the virual machine on my old
notebook (32bit Windows 7 SP1) - which worked! The
problem is that I can't take that old notebook with me,
I need GNU Health on my 64 bit Windows 8.1 machine.
Any ideas?

Dear Armand
A virtual machine sounds very promising. I've
installed VirtualBox, downloaded the VMDK file and
tried to run the virtual machine as described here: https://susestudio.com/help/use/virtualbox.html
Unfortunately I get a fatal error shortly after
booting the virtual machine, and I know too little
about all this to interpret the log file created by
VirtualBox. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit.
Has anyone encountered the same problem before?
Best regards,
Martin

Dear
Martin,
A cost effective solution would be
to download Oracle VirtualBox from https://www.virtualbox.org/
and install (it is an open source software) on
your PC. You will then create an OpenSuse
Virtual machine and install GNU Health using the
Live CD. OpenSuse and GNU Health will be
installed automatically. It works very well.
Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year,
Armand
I experimented
with the GNU Health Live CD, but I did not
manage to boot
my Samsung Notebook from it (I tried both
USB stick and CD).
So I'm thinking about buying a small
computer like a Mac Mini or similar
as a GNU Health server. Does anyone have
experiences to share?
I'm familiar with Windows and Mac OS, but
not with Linux. I'm looking
for a solution that is simple, small and
reliable, since I'll be
travelling to Laos and need something for
demonstration purposes.
