Say what?  You should either "sudo" (please no), or "su -"

Then you are not in your gpsd directory.  So use the full path.

We'll assume that worked for now.

Then use the full path.

That is just wierd.  Bad install?  Bad libraries??

Bad path.  Use the full path, or fix your PATH.

I assume you waited a while?  If so, not good.

Very bad.  Are you sure no other gpsd was running?
