Darn, I just checked my personal mailbox, which has a 250 meg limit and the generic gotmail_testing box, and it's what I thought. The big mailboxes have a different folder ID scheme than the 2 meg boxes.

I just created that gotmail_testing box and it has a 2 meg limit. I have no idea how MS is deciding who gets a 250 meg box and who doesn't, but it looks like new ones are 2 megs.

Anyhow, this means that gotmail MUST scan for the mailbox id now. That's trivial code to add, gotmail already has a function for doing this. But how can gotmail search for the words 'Trash Can' AND be language neutral? A command line option for naming yor 'deleted' folder is about all I can think of.

BTW, the gotmail checked into CVS has a new option, --move <folder>. This option will move mail into the named folder after downloading. Janak, can you get the CVS build and try this new option, but use your "Trash Can" folder as the option? (or whatever it's called in your account)? It would be --move "Trash Can". That should have the same effect as deleting the mail after downloading.

When deleting mail, gotmail moves them to the trash can. For a long time, the internal id of the trash can has been F0000004. Recently, though, the trash can on at least some accounts is now more like ""00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000002". I changed gotmail to use use this id.

The problem is, I'm not sure that ALL the new "Trash Can" folders are this same id. I can pretty easily scan through the mail and figure out whatever the correct ID for the deleted folder is by looking for a folder named "Trash Can". But doing that will mean that gotmail would pretty much be an 'English' only thing.

Assuming that's the problem, I'm not sure how to do that AND keep gotmail language neutral. At best, I suppose the name of the trash can could be another parameter for non-English users.

T. E. unrolled a scroll which read:

Thanks for the link, but bad news: it didn't work for the 250MB
box. :( The message count does indeed seem right, but after pulling
the message it still appears as unread and certainly not deleted, and
subsequent runs of gotmail pull down the same message.

In general, I think I'm experiencing a slightly different symptom: the
emails are fetched but not deleted.
