However, it would be nice if the main page had a small notice on the
actual release version numbers for stable and unstable. I'm pretty

They are listed on the 'Download' page.

*scratch* Maybe I'm blind, but I can't see them anywhere. That's why I
was asking in the first place ...

Here's an exact URL:

http://wwwmain.gnustep.org/resources/ downloads.php?site=ftp%3A%2F%2Fftp.gnustep.org%2Fpub%2Fgnustep

Each package has a 'Stable' and 'Unstable' column

As far as I can tell, stable has higher version numbers than
unstable, right now, 1.6.0 and 0.8.5 (for stable) to 1.5.2 and 0.8.4
(for unstable) ???
Not necessarily - It depends on which has been released most recently.
Unstable versions have an odd second number (y in x.y.z) for releases
greater than version 1.0.0. For releases less than 1.0.0, anything mod
0.0.5 is a stable release.

Ugh. I've been trying to keep track of the versions using two RDF files
on www.gnustep.us ... so some reliable source would come in handy ...

Actually, after the recent developer confusion with the 0.8.5 release, I might just give up on labeling the gui/back versions (at least) as being stable or unstable. We'll see.
