User-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Icedove/38.8.0

Another place to look for such packages is in the ConnochaetOS repositories (also Slackware-based, libre-friendly). They are already packaging Icecat, Iceweasel, Icedove, and even Iceape for Slack-based systems in both 32- and 64-bit flavors. I personally pull those in as additional repositories for my Freeslack system as Mozilla replacements.

just thought I'd add my $0.02 worth here....

Thanks, and absolutely. Ideally, we would repackage something a la
icecat, and beyond that we will borrow as much code as possible. No
intention to reinvent the wheel here, just a desire to do the least
amount of work required to provide functional replacements.

Hello,
I'd just like to mention that FSF approved Parabola GNU/Linux-libre
currently maintains patches for IceWease and IceDove.

If you are interested in seeing them you can do so here:

https://projects.parabola.nu/abslibre.git/tree/libre/icedove
https://projects.parabola.nu/abslibre.git/tree/nonprism/icedove

We remove DRM, Branding, and anti-privacy "features" as well. So if your
looking for ideas, feel free to borrow from it! It'll save you some time.

Sounds great. What I think we will do is we will purge offending mozilla
products and possibly provide replacements. It will be done during June.
Then we'll give a shout-out for the final check both to you and the
linux-libre group.

Now, I have a somewhat technical question. As for firefox, there is an
excellent replacement, which is icecat, but after that it gets tricky.
We are kicking around the idea to build tbird, seamonkey (and possibly
also firefox)

(1) with branding disabled
(2) with "get addons" page set to a static message like "get them
yourself, make sure they are free"

Do you think that would be enough to make these packages free?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
You should use unbranded versions of these programs. I recommend
considering GNUZilla <https://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/> or looking
at the versions packaged by Trisquel.
To be sure, do you guys require or merely suggest this?
The official branded version of Firefox is nonfree software due to
trademark restrictions on distributing verbatim copies of the Firefox
binaries. You do not have to package GNUZilla or GNU IceCat to comply
with the FSDG.

"The most important way to help us is by checking our work with respect
to licensing. If you know of a non-free package we (accidentally)
distributed, please notify us as soon as possible."

Great.

Can you please follow-up again with Linux-libre mailing list asking them
to do a final check? You should provide them with:

* The link you provided above
(<http://freeslack.net/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=participation>) for people
to file nonfree bugs and your commitment to following the FSDG.

* A link to your package repositories to show that you are self hosting
and are not just relying upon an upstream distros servers/repositories.

Best,

Josh
