The British Phonographic Industry and others are mounting a campaign
to extend the copyright on performances beyond the current 50 years.
Free software is rarely performed, so this doesn't affect GNU and
friends yet, but we should take part in discussions that attempt to
renegociate the copyright compromise. Extending copyright is nearly
always a donation to existing industry more than an increased
incentive to create.
Rufus Pollock has put up a page at
http://www.okfn.org/fcd/wiki/PublicDomainElvis and I suggest that
anyone interested subscribes to or monitors that page, at least. If
there's interest, I can post major events back here, but I'd
appreciate any help with that.
It's called "Public Domain Elvis" because some of Elvis's early
performances will soon be out of copyright.
