You should rather do what

  https://savannah.nongnu.org/cvs/?group=freetype

says:

  cvs -z3 \
      -d:pserver:address@hidden:/sources/freetype \
      co freetype2

I'll update download.html.

Yep.  Just do `cvs update -dP', or `cvs co -P'.
