Found it: http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/freetype/

For freetype2 in cvs, i just did:

export CVSROOT=:pserver:address@hidden:/cvsroot/freetype
cvs login
  Logging in to :pserver:address@hidden:2401/cvsroot/freetype
  CVS password: <enter>
cvs co freetype2

These directories are empty:

  freetype2/docs/cache
                /design
                /glyph_conventions
                /glyphs
                /image
                /internals
                /reference
                /tutorial

After building and doing "make refdoc" only one directory is filled:

  freetype2/docs/reference


I didn't realize there was a "make refdoc" step in my last post.
