I would encourage you to hook up with him.
We definitely welcome contributors to SharpDevelop. Right now, we'd especially like to have a CVS-savvy person help us improve nCVS, which is our CVS client, to achieve a feature set of what one can find in Eclipse, VSS and other commercial source code control clients (visual diff, branch control, you name it).
