And how many incomplete Preferences apps? ;-) The problem is the same as with all open-source projects -- starting something from scratch is just more enjoyable than the work to harden and fill missing gaps in something existing. And the latter invariably takes more time and effort than the "starting out" part. To one degree or another, an open source project has to either motivate open-source programmers to resist their natural impulses to start new projects, or develop some type of symbiosis with corporate interests.
