After all an XML description of the user interface should be platform independant.(nor a copyright assignment) - although there are issues of where to put top-level menu items (like Hide and Quit).Sticking them along the top works fine - note that this what booth NeXTs and Apples implemetations of menus do on Windows. It exapsrates me that this just blatently doesnt work under OSx (or else I would have to write two Renaissance files for my apps)
Does anyone still have the patch by Daniel Patrick from Feb 2002? I'd like to have a look at getting that working for myself atleast, coz I'm sick of these menu's popping up all over the place - I'd prefer things to be more consistent in that no matter what application I'm using the menu will always be at the top of the screen.TYhis whould be a nice change for the GUI - but stikicng with the interface we all know and love is going to lead to a more consistent system. At least for a 1.0 release anyway.
