It may be cheaper to use an off-the-shelf GPS receiver, but it's not as fun as trying to write one yourself.

Oh, you mean "raw signal data" as in a recording of the raw data.
I thought you ment "data about the raw signal".
After re-reading the specs, I think the only thing that _could_
receive GPS is an SDR. as the signal is spread spectrum.
My little HT will receive the frequecy
that GPS uses but I don't think the full 1Mhz bandwidth signal
will come out the earphone jack ;-) I am very much impresed
that Garman can sell a 12 channel parallel GPS receiver for $116
Qty 1 retail.

I think the cheapest way to receive GPS with your computer is
to connect to GPS's NMEA port to the computer's RS-232. Yes I
know, rs232 is not good enough for some applcations.

Thanks for the links, they don't seem to have any raw signal data.

If anyone is interested, the "spec" for GPS is called ICD-200c and
can be found here
http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/pubs/gps/icd200/default.htm

It seems like no one is willing to waste their bandwidth on hosting
hundreds of MBs of digitized GPS signals. :(

My search continues...

See if this helps.

If not get back with me on this list. My office is about 200
yards away from the GPS Program office which houses the owners of
GPS system. I could ask around about the location of the
publically releasable specification documents.

For those who know nothing about GPS see the primer at
http://www.aero.org/publications/GPSPRIMER/
But if you know what L1/L2 means don't bother with it.

Howdy,

Does any have or know of a source for GPS L1 (and possibly L2) I/F
signal data?
