I'll just comment on this one paragraph.  Because Winboard_x forked off
from 4.2.7 (as I understand it) and you continued from there, there is
probably a fair amount of stuff in Savannah right now that's not in
your version.  Daniel Mehrmann did a bunch of work on merging changes
into Savannah that people had sent in and given us permission to use.
Unless you've picked that stuff up, or it's all subsumed by what you've
done, there would be some merging to do.  However, I imagine the merged
result would end up a lot closer to what you have than to what's in
Savannah now, because it sounds like you (and Alessandro) have done a
lot of work.  So it may be a better strategy to start with your version
and merge things into it instead of vice versa, but someone will have
to really look at the diffs to know for sure.
