Neither "missing header" nor "bad CRC" appear in the source code for
gzip 1.3.3 and tar 1.13.25, so at first glance it doesn't appear to be
a bug in either gzip or tar properly. Possibly it's in the Red Hat
versions of those programs, but in that case you should be talking to
Red Hat. At any rate, perhaps you can do more detective work to see
where the problem really lies.
