Hello Andrew and thank's for your reply,

Let's see... it was a file called ntuser~1.log in a user's Documents
directory. I was quite suprised to see that this was the only file
that caused complaints because there shouldn't be anything special
about it. There is such file for each user and the other's weren't
reported.

Yes and that's the way I like it ;-)

No, it is not the same.

I did run the resize again trying to restore the partition to it's
original size. This had no effect on booting. Then I resized the
partition back to it's new smaller size and everything went just like
the first time, with the same error message. Finally, I installed
Linux at the end of the drive to have something running on thursday.

Ok, here is how the ntoskrnl.exe looks like from Linux... Hmm... There
seems to be some problem with reading the winnt directory from
Linux. The directory appears to be empty. This is not very
promising. However, I am able to read all other files.

Sorry, the file really seems to be missing.

Now, I have some additional, probably off topic, problems with booting
to linux. I installed from Redhat 7.0 cd-roms and selected Lilo to be
installed on the master boot record. Somehow this is totally ignored
and the booting process tries to boot directly to W2K. So, I have to
use a boot floppy. The laptop seems to start at first something called
Intel boot agent. Maybe this is messing things further
up... Well... not really the smoothest LInux installation I done ;-/.

Thank's and have a nice day,

Teppo
