Thank you for taking the time to reply to my
stupid little problem.

This problem has not really been a common one for me in the past.
I do recall that Netscape occasionally exhibited it.

I appreciate the variety of solutions around the problem,
and as I noted I found a solution which was to use a mirror.

I would hope that you might consider putting a note on the web page
near the download that exhibits this common problem,
so that some other poor dummie, like me, doesn't send you
annoying email or even just curses
in frustration at his difficulties.

May I suggest the follow text or anything similiar:
"Some browsers may have a problem downloading this file.
If you see wild unprintable characters you may be encountering
this problem. Once all of the data has been sent to your browser,
you can do "FILE/SAVE AS" or(left cllick the address while you hold the shift key). Or you can go try a local mirror instead of getting it from here in the Netherlands."

I appreciate your consideration of my difficulites and the work you do in
maintaining the application and the web site.

Best Wishes

Paul Campbell.

It is just as Carlo says. This is a common problem on many sites. I find that
"shift left-click" is the best way (that means hold down the shift key on the
keyboard while you click the address with the left mouse button - or the
right mouse button if you have set it for left-handed use). This keystroke
takes you straight to the "save as..." dialog in most browsers.

You may file with some browsers that the file gets unzipped during download
so you may need to play with the tar options to untar it.
