What definition is that? I never install Grub on the MBR in a single HD
system. Yet, I can always get a Grub command prompt by simply making sure
there is no menu.lst where Grub expects to find it.

Or better yet, make sure there's no need to have Grub on the MBR. It's
usually needless, in which case it serves only to cause frustration following
Windoz touching the partition tables or MBR.
