BUG: GNU ld version 2.14 for ALPHA (update)

hi,
i have tried to compile the linux-2.6.0-test1 on alpha. The ld caused a 
segfault while linking.

GNU C Library stable release version 2.2.4
Linux version 2.4.9 

i have change the compiler from 2.96 to 3.3 - no change
I have reports from other alpha users that the were unable to reproduce the 
bug. the fact that i could compile with on other configuration seems to 
indicate that it triggers some strange border case.
