Looks good or at least interesting to me. Someone must code and that's
not me -- I'm not a hacker.
I guess as long as you are able to solve the problem writing a wrapper
script the problem isn't that urgent. But in the ends, it's Bruno
Haible's decison, of course. I'm just a gettext user and random tester.

Sure. I should have said that I'm not the gettext maintainer. I'm
sure Bruno will answer your observations when time permits.
